Eventually, the nerves can deteriorate or become permanently damaged, resulting the loss of ability to walk in severe cases. Unfortunately, there is no cure for MS, but there are treatments that can help speed recovery from attacks. Corticosteroids and plasma exchange are the most popular treatments. However, side effects to those treatments may include insomnia, increased blood pressure, mood swings, and fluid retention. The researchers treated immune cells in mice that specifically target and harm the brain and spinal cord. In response to the chemicals, the immune cells produced fewer inflammatory molecules.
